  • Lunchtime: 30 fieldfares on the short turf in the field at the bottom of the heath, and a buzzard circling to the south of there (Mark Ward)

Friday 17th Feb

  • A visitor reported 2 crossbills (male and female) drinking at the pool in front of the hide on Friday afternoon
  • Siskins visiting the feeders at The Gatehouse on Friday 17th(Neil Renwick)
  • A lunchtime walk produced a Raven calling as I walked down the steps past Jack's Pond at 13.20 (frustratingly as I was surrounded by trees!). Also 3 Buzzards enjoying the sunshine; a pair circling together over the back of the heath and another further towards Biggleswade Common. And c220 Rooks performing acrobatics over Biggleswade Common.(Mark Ward)
  • A lunchtime walk produced: 2 Buzzards1 Sparrowhawk, 3+ Siskin,10 Crossbills - a party of 9 that headed off over Biggleswade Common, and a single bird subsinging in a tree at the bottom of the heath. The finch flock is still hanging around on the edge of the heath, feeding in the weedy field, and included 80+ Chaffinch, 40+ Goldfinch and at least 8+ redpolls. The latter hard to get decent views of, but included one Mealy - a male beginning to develop a nice pale pink flush on the breast - with one or two more that showed at least some Mealy features (Mark Eaton)
