Bird news

Tuesday 16th
  • At the Lodge, two turtle doves near the heath pond flew just off the reserve and were displaying in a dead tree, Tuesday lunchtime (Dave Agombar)
  • Following the first ever Web Team window record of Crossbill this morning, came the second Tues afternoon (c16.50) with a sizeable flock (15+) coming into and then leaving the pines (dropping down beyond the plateau), at the west side of the Avocet car park, again seen from my window. Just like buses - you wait ages for one and then two come along at once... (Mark Ward)
  • 5 Crossbills flew low east over the Avocet building at 11.46 Tues am, seen through my window. A Web Team window first! (Mark Ward)
Monday 15th
  • Pair turtle doves just over wall near bridleway gate (Graham Wilton-Jones)
  • Hobby from the Web Team window Monday pm (first of the season from the window). Also 2-3 buzzards appearing infrequently again now following a break from regular sightings (Mark Ward)
Friday 12th
  • Pair Mandarins on Hide natterjack pool nearest woodland trail. Where are they nesting?
Saturday 13th
  • 2 shelducks circling the heath, again, while I was checking the sheep; spotted flycatcher singing at the Gatehouse; 2 cuckoos in Sandy Heath Quarry (and a team of volunteers) (Neil Renwick)
Friday 12th
  • Hobby over the Avocet car park 11.00 on 12 May (Chris Bowden)
  • lunch time baby grass snake by gate to woodland at rear of house pond (Chris Magin)
Thurs 11th
  • 3 crossbills seen heading away from the hide pools whilst I was checking the sheep; pairs of spotted flycatchers around Jacks Pond & over the drive just south of the cattle grid at the Gatehouse end of the drive
